What is Yoga?

Yoga is a traditional spiritual practice originating in India. Today it is practiced in the west as an effective means of reducing stress and of exercising the body and mind in a uniquely holistic way. Yoga can be practiced in a group setting or one on one with a qualified teacher. Group classes allow you to experience the dynamic of common practice and give you the opportunity to compare styles and approaches to postures. Individual lessons enable you to develop a style of practice unique to your personal state of fitness, health and constitutional disposition in the absence of comparison to fellow class mates. Traditionally a teacher would have taken the time to engage with each student prescribing postures, breathing exercises and spiritual practice specific to the individual student. Today, individual lessons can be used to target backpain, insomnia, occupational stress and so on, in a way that is not possible in a group setting.
Yoga is a simple, achievable form of exercise suitable for men and women of all ages and levels of fitness.
